For those warriors who continue the fight here’s our prognostication for what will NOT happen in Washington State in 2018…unless…we get off our duffs and press the legislature to act. Please prove us wrong.
Item #1: Common Core will NOT go away…no matter what they call it. The State Superintendent is fully behind CC even though it has failed (even Bill Gates has admitted it and backed off funding). Both the Democrat and Republican Party Platforms call for CC to be tossed…but…it doesn’t
Item #2: Student privacy will NOT improve…indeed…there will be data breaches announced but only after investigation and then there will be all sorts of assurances nothing was really lost
Item #3: SBAc test scores will NOT improve. Indeed, they will continue their slide which will result in Teachers Unions and OSPI calling for more money
Item #4: The use of tech will NOT go down. It will continue to grow even though studies show that the more screen time the more thoughts of suicide. Oh wait…there is no evidence spending tens and hundreds of millions of $$$ does anything to help improve education outcomes
Item #5: Suspensions and expulsions will NOT go down…but they will appear to do so. Why? Because they changed the rules for such actions. They are also holding students subject to discipline in class rooms under supervision so they continue to get paid AND they can claim a reduction in actions and conduct requiring severe intervention
Item #6: Unions will NOT lose influence
Item #7: Parents will NOT be listened to
We’ll stop here for a moment and open the podium to you. What do you say will NOT happen in K-12 education in 2018 in Washington State?
